fact and opinion intertwined

1-1 or 3-0

Posted by James Dall on 19, November 2006

Argh the sheer frustration. As the title suggests it seems that all we can manage at home is a 1-1 draw or a 3-0 win. If we concede first forget it – the trend goes something like we start brightly but not at our best the away team sit back, the away team break and either off a set piece of a counter a sloppy defensive error occurs and they score. From then on we bombard the other team and at some point in the second half claw one back but never get that all important second.

I did not watch the whole game, however Eboue was clearly at fault for the goal. Quite terrible defending to allow Dyer to shift the ball onto his stronger foot and actually give him the angle to find the bottom corner. There is a clip here of the goal but in awful quality.

The starting line-up was exactly as i predicted, with Baptista making his first start. According to one of my friends at the game he did not look too sharp and his passing was a bit off. I am still convinced he can be a big player for us this season so i do not plan to give him a hard time. Henry was rested and then came on second half as we needed a little bit of something extra. He replaced Van Persie who for me looked like our biggest threat first half, Van went off injured and he is to have an x-ray, fingers crossed he is ok. Henry scored the equaliser and it was a superb free kick curler in off the bar. Given for Newcastle was outstanding but we kept on pushing. Not enough though, we drew and Chelsea and United won. Portsmouth have moved above us in the table, I am aware we have a game in hand but everytime I think about the points we have dropped at home it disappoints me so much.

You can read Arsene’s reaction here. He is as annoyed we all are. Have a relaxing Sunday and try not to think about the game.
