Porto tomorrow, Fabregas awesome

Posted by James Dall on 5, December 2006

Quite clearly tomorrow is a huge game in our season, I hope that Saturday’s victory will turn out to be the catalyst in our season. I am of course aware that this was said about the Man U game and also Liverpool game but hey maybe the derby win will be the turning point for our consistency.

Porto are top of the Portuguese league and will certainly be a tough test for us. Wenger has talked about the importance of not playing for a draw. I am sure you can all remember away against Villarreal last season, where we took a one goal lead to Spain and hung on for dear life. Well I trust Wenger will have learnt from that, as will the players and we will get the ball down and play – not inviting pressure. The squad for the game can be viewed here. I would like to see the following starting line-up

Jens, Eboue, Toure, Djourou, Clichy, Hleb, Fabregas, Gilberto, Baptista, Van Persie, Adebayor – ironically playing the 4-5-1 as i do think this is a game we can utilise such a formation. Porto will come at us and if we harry them in midfield and break we could punish them. Baptista possibly in midifled if not then Freddie – still a but unsure about that one.

A nice little comment by Thierry on Fabregas about how blooming marvellous he is –

I have so much confidence in Fabregas. I think he’s young, but I do think he can spark the team any time he wants to do it. He doesn’t know yet how good he is and I think he can do what he wants.

He is not wrong, Fabregas is a genius and to be honest my favourite player. The boy is just a glorious player.

Final bit of news is that Rosicky could well be out for three weeks. Very frustrating as I really rate him and clearly depth to the squad is really important approaching the hectic Christmas period. More of a preview on the game tomorrow…
