Team news, Kanu = Adebayor, and Lauren plays some football

Posted by James Dall on 16, December 2006

Morning all, not got much time as I am off to London today (not to see the game though unfortunately). There is some injury news here. Rosicky does not make it but is very close to fitness. Arsene has thought it wise not to gamble on him – good decision. Gallas is ten days away, so will not play before Christmas. More solid performances from Djourou meanwhile please.

An exciting bit of news is that Lauren played his first bit of football in 11 months, he got a 55 minute run out in a behind closed doors friendly. Clearly it will be a massive plus once he is available – Eboue must be aware he needs to step up his game if he is to keep his place in the starting line up. Sure he might be faster than Lauren but if I remember correctly Lauren had afantastic pass completion, very rarely losing the ball. Defensively he is sound too.

A couple of comments from Wenger on our current crop of players, mainly comparing them with the old guard who now play for today’s oppenents – Portsmouth. He reckons –

There are plenty of similarities

Fair enough Arsene, he continues about his surprise at how many goals Kanu is scoring at the moment especially with his left foot. And also comments about how he is delighted with his attitude since he arrived, especially as before he had a bit of a rep for being moody. I was a bit concerned about his mind set however he certainly has proved me wrong so far.

More comparisons this time between Toure and Sol. Mainly just saying how Toure learnt a lot from Sol – I am sure he did not learn to dessert his team at half time because he was having a bad game. Arsene is also  a bit bewildered at why Sol chose pompey baring in mind he wanted to go abroad. Interestingly he mentions with regards to players that leave he only speaks to the ones having a tough time. For example Bobby who is injured currently he was on the phone to last week.

Following Arsene’s comments about how he wants to keep Stokes and Bendtner, Bendtner has been bouyed by this development –

I am happy that Wenger says that he wants to keep me. When I left Denmark at the age of 16, it was my big goal to get the breakthrough at Arsenal and that is still my goal.

And that my friends is pretty much it. Portsmouth at 3 obviously. 4-4-2 please Wenger, Jens, Eboue, Toure, Djourou, Clichy, Hleb, Gilberto, Fabregas, Walcott, van Persie, Adebayor to be the starting line up. I would love that. 3 points is the order of the day. Enjoy your Saturdays.
