Rosicky the new Pires

Posted by James Dall on 8, January 2007

Morning, Monday’s are less than enjoyable I feel. Anyway tomorrow will be Tuesday which means one day nearer to the weekend and another Arsenal fixture. News is thin on the ground to be honest.

Wenger reckons that Rosicky could well replace Pires in the role of goals from midfield. There is no doubting the incredible service Pires gave us. He was a real asset, racking up assists and goals. This season in the games we have drawn maybe that is what we have been lacking. How often did we see Pires arrive late in the box and strike one home. Rosicky is a class act, before the weekend he had only scored that screamer in the Champions League but now after two great goals on the weekend, I hope his scoring will become more frequent. There is no doubting his ability, Arsene recognises his qualities –

Rosicky can score more goals because he is quick, he has good timing and he is very accurate in his finishing

There is more from Arsene here. I do believe that Rosicky will be a superb player for our club. He has a terrific hunger and work rate and can make that left sided position his own. He is a rare breed also, in that Wenger purchased a player that was nearing his prime rather than needed a few seasons to develop. The question, which I mentioned in yesterday’s blog from the BBC interviewer about whether he feels he adapted to the English game was absolute nonsense. He adapted almost immediately. Only his season has been fragmented through injury.  I strongly believe in him and I hope other supporters do too.

Moving on, it appears that Stokes might snub Charlton for Sunderland. Unlucky Pardew. It seems to me that there is no coincidence with Pardew today declaring he might not let Bent leave. This seems to correlate with him not being able to get Stokes in as replacement. Fair play to Stokes. I hope he does well wherever he goes.

Another loanee, Lupoli, might now stay at Derby. He says that he has offers from Italy but depending on whether Derby get promoted, will determine his future. My hunch is he will return to Italy. With that, it looks like our only survivor from being loaned out might be Bendtner. Bendtner picked up a serious injury on the weekend, very unfortunate for the lad, we wish him all the best.

That is about it for Monday, hopefully tomorrow there will be more for me to divulge.

  1. Arsenal Amsterdam said

Don’t forget we also have Muamba (Brum), Gilbert (Cardiff) O’Ceauruill (Brighton) all out on loan at the moment. Not sure if Connolly is still at Bournemouth.

  2. I am aware of the others our on loan, I was more referring to the strikers. I thought Gilbert looked really promising when I saw him last season. Is he better than Hoyte…?
