Bakary again + media nonsense

Posted by James Dall on 19, June 2007

Rather than writing the blog daily I seem to be writing the blog every two days at the moment. During the season I was so enthused to write the blog because inevitably there was a match coming up or we had performed the day before. Right now it is all a bit dull to be honest. We are being linked with few people, we have brought in a goalkeeper (a good signing) and a teenager, and we are still met with the frustrating circle that is the Thierry Henry situation.

There are several stories for me to cover in today’s blog. None of which I am overly enthralled to write about. None-the-less if I put it off then I will be severely behind. So onwards and upwards. What is first on the agenda? I shall start with Justin Hoyte, who has played in all three of England’s games in the group stages of the Under 21 European Championship. I watched the first two games and he was pretty solid, the third game clashed with the final day of la Liga (which I will cover shortly) so I did not manage to catch much of the match. England are into the semi-finals after a 2-0 win over Serbia & Montenegro. Unfortunately it seems a couple of the England players were faced with racism. The FA have now contacted FIFA. Will much be done? I doubt it. On the other hand English fans have a terrible reputation and whenever they are caught of any slight wrong-doing they get punished severely. The sooner FIFA wake up and publicly demonstrate that they simply will not tolerate racism, the better.

Gilberto finished second in the poll for player of the season. Personally I think he deserved to be number one. I presume Fabregas has got the top spot. If anyone else deserves the award, it should be Cesc.

The French press have linked us with Bakary Sagna. A week or so ago it was speculated that he might be on his way, we all had a right old debate about whether he was needed. I think the conclusion was that if we could get him for a smallish fee he could provide solid cover at left/right back, especially with Eboue participating in the ANC. The fee being mentioned is £6.75 million. That seems a little steep. French teams love getting silly fees for their players – Essien/Ribery etc. If he is a target then I am positive Arsene will not pay over the odds for him. I just hope that if we do get him his fee will not eat inot any remaining money for a left winger – the one position we really do need cover for.

According to reports Valencia right back Miguel has had offers from English clubs. He is an excellent player but I strongly doubt we are in for him. He would be extremely pricey.

Giuly has dismissed claims that he has been in contact with Henry about his move to Barca. He said they were utter bullshit. Fair play. I guess that goes to show you that the French media are as equally able to print crap as the Spanish.

After Reyes knocked in two vital goals for Real at the weekend, Jose has expressed his desire to stay at the Bernabeu

Scoring two goals to help us win the last game of the season when we needed a victory is a great feeling for me, and I hope they aren’t my last goals for Real Madrid. Maybe what has happened will convince the club they would like to keep me. I’ve said many times what an honour it is to play for Real Madrid.

It really is a shame he could not settle in England. When he came on for Madrid on Sunday he provided some real width for Real – something we often lack. Oh well, his goals will do us no harm and hopefully will now create a bit of a bidding war between some of the Spanish clubs. As soon as a sale is confirmed I would hope a replacement will be brought in soon after.

As expected the media has increased their spouting of shit now that la Liga has finished. The Sun reports that Arsene will be brought in to replace Frank Rijkaard after he failed to clinch the title. I think we are all safe in the knowledge Arsene is definitely staying for at least another season I plan to say nothing else on the matter.

There we have it, today there are rumours flying around that we will confirm a huge signing. Further rumours suggest it will just be confirmation that Aliadiere is leaving. Some even suggest Owen is on his way in. Knowing us though we have probably resigned Cygan.

Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.

i think arsene would SERIOUSLY consider the role at barca ..
especially if henry is going there .. and fabs would like to go home im sure, if arsene leaves .. ok he came out and said im going to honour my contract . But he wasnt offered the manager role at debateably the best team on the planet then either.. 1 thing is for sure if arsene did accept the role at barca , they definately would be the best team on the planet .. he could even buy reyes 🙂

would this make us a feeder club for barca?
maybe we should just swap names 🙂

I wish people just thought for a while before they empty the contents of their rotting head on sites like these. How many times has Wenger to repeat “I will never break a contract” before they accept he is a man of his word.

Just because lazy journos like Steve Curry, Guillame Ballague and all the red top writers have very little to write about this time of year, it doesn’t make what they write true. In fact, its more likely to be fiction. They write something contoversial, someone else repeats it and hey presto its a bona fide rumour.

Unlike these journalist Wenger is a man of his word. End of.

    paul you goofy git ..
he said that before he was offered the APPOINTMENT OF A LIFE TIME !
THINK ABOUT IT ! you ignorant twat . stay in the UK with your best friend ejected from the board , with 1 season still to go , at the time im sure he didnt have any other options but to say otherwise! IF HE WAS AS LOYAL AS YOU STATE WHY DIDNT HE SIGN A NEW DEAL to atleast put his younsters minds at ease ( and henrys)… keep your rose tinted glasses on son ! your gonna need them !

  6. Robert Moir said

“IF HE WAS AS LOYAL AS YOU STATE WHY DIDNT HE SIGN A NEW DEAL”

Because he’s pretty much always left it to the last moment to sign contracts himself? Part of not wanting to break a contract would be not wanting to limit your options with regard to the end of contracts, don’t you think?

I thought anyone who’d been a fan of the club for longer than a year knew that; this issue came up the last time his contract was up and we had the same crud printed in the press and the same badly spelt, all-caps hysterics from “fans” then, too.

Why did you say debatively Barca is the best team on the planet? On or off the field? On the field its not, Real has won La Liga more than it has and other teams have won more of their local league than them, Pool, Baryern, AC, Juventus etc. Let’s come to the CL, Real has won more, the we have Pool, Bayern, AC, Juve etc who have also won more. Outside the field last year their revenue was Eur144+ far less than what even Arsenal earned. On the richest clubs list according to FORBES, there MANU, REAL, ARSENAL, AC MILAN, JUVENTUS before Barca, so here again they flop. While they play beautiful football, they’re not better than Arsenal, so the facts are there. It’s a noisy team, but they are empty barrels comparatively. Last time in the CL finals, Henry let us down, if he had taken the two chances that came his way when leading 1:0, we would have shut their mouth for a longer period, however, we shall see what happens next season.

if eto doesn’t leave barca i do not think henry will go, as just like last year, his ego will not play 4th fiddle to eto, Ronaldinho and messi.

Please don’t sign Cygan! About 1 in 5 players who leave a north london club get drawn out of a hat and signed for Pompey! Maybe you could try and push Walcott out? I hear he’s pretty good for a Scummer!

    Harlan,
debatively, because im an arsenal fan !
but with names like eto, Ronaldinho and messi Edmílson, Thuram and winning the la liga title 2 out of 3 times RECENTLY including CL last year.. i mean come on GET OF THE GRASS THEIR CURRENTLY THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAM IN THE WORLD ! and with arsene they probly feel like henry and fabs will go too !

Im saying arsene is a frenchman who has had 2 reasonably poor
seasons by his standards, and with DD and the board issues
HE PROBLY WOULD CONSIDER LEAVING !NOW MORE THAN EVER !

ITS A DREAM APPOINTMENT FOR ANY MANAGER (barca). lets face it ,if you had a name like Robert Moir you would probly defend the frog , with rose tinted glasses and it doesnt mean much about arsene IN THE PAST SIGNING HIS CONTRACTS LATE , or comming up with pathetic comments trying to state NER, NER, NER,NER im a better arsenal fan than you BOLLOXS
( i tell ya we havnt had any new fans in the last 2 years !)

HE NEEDS TO SHOW COMMITMENT NOW YOU STUPID ‘FROG MOIR’ BECAUSE
IF YOU HAVNT BEEN A FAN FOR LONG ILL BRING YOU UP TO SPEED ,WEVE LOST A SHITE LOAD OF EXPERIENCE OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS !
AND REPLACED KEY SQUAD MEMBERS WITH BABIES !
fabrigas , henry & gallas are all needing a commitment from someone before they will soon walk out ALSO ! and that SOMEONE is ‘arsene’ leading from the front like a manager should .
ONLY saying ‘ill honour my contract’is stating
‘ HE ISNT COMMITTING PAST THIS SEASON’ !!!! ( you claim to be such a literal genious so think about his use of words dipshit)

Also there is a bit of difference to other times over his 10 year stint (we were winning)of course we had faith he’d resign!, THE DIFFERENCE IS our players left are all babies and need commitment to be confident ! AND HE MADE THE CLUB THIS WAY OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS stating we are NOT in a transitional period ..!

your obviously wayyyy to stupid to comprehend !

Good points bitter un twisted but let me put your mind at ease

Wenger would go to Barca because they are a massive club whereas being at arsenal at the moment must seem like the loonatics are running the asilum Players want to leave as soon as possible. Wenger has had enough

point 2 Wenger cant nurture his squads, he has,nt the time yes he rates the young players there but ultamatly there not good enough to win any thing in the years to come. Certainly not the prem, witch mean buying player of proven quality but Arsenal are skint.

Wenger has never been a man of his word. turning a blind eye to all the blatant cheating and diving , witch was the basis to the so called success in the 90s

SO WHAT YOUR SAYING IS ARSENE IS A FREE AGENT WITH NO MORALS AND LIKES TO KEEP HIS OPTIONS OPEN ?? IS THAT BEFORE OR AFTER HE IS SUPPOSED TO ‘like to build and nuture squads?’

BOTH OF YOU REALLY NEED TO OPEN YOUR EYES ..
AND IF YOU STATE ARSENE LIKES TO BUY BABIES AND TRAIN EM UP
THEN YOU NEED SOLID COMMITMENT OVER MANY SEASONS .
‘ NOT LEAVE YOUR YOUNGSTERS IN THE DARK OVER CONTRACT STALLING ‘
ITS DEFINATELY NOT GOOD FOR NEXT SEASONS MORAL ..
WE DONT OWN THE INVINCIBLES ANYMORE ! WAKE UP !

Bitter N Twisted obviously hasnt been a fan too long .
what arsene likes to do is buy a player who have potential
but as the board gives him limited spending every year and those signings have gotten younger and younger . arsene loved baptista
( WHO ISNT A YOUNG PLAYER)but obviously he never bidded for him prior (and thank god 4 that) , but the board wouldnt approve of spending so much , same way we missed out on ribery .. the board is as tight arse’d , as you are stupid ..

I lurk on this blog, never post.

But I just had to post something here, after reading Steve’s ravings. Steve, you demand “constructive comments” while insulting people with cheap obscenities. And first rule of internet discussions: the more caps you use, the less credible you become. You’re just shouting and screaming mindlessly at people, nobody listens. You destroy your own arguments.

I’ve been a gooner for 21 years — anyone who knows anything about Wenger’s history of contract negotiations at the club knows that he always leaves it up almost to the last minute. He has said point blank more than once that he will serve out this final year in his current contract (which ends in 2008) and then will consider his future at the club, period. That’s always been his style for every one of his contracts–he’s always made ambiguous comments to the press whenever it was time for him to negotiation a new contract and signs very close to the deadline.

This is basic Wenger. It’s his style. Anyone who knows anything about Arsenal under his management understands this.

Yes, Dein’s departure puts a new light on things — but there’s no proof yet that that means Wenger’s decided to just suddenly abandon his project with the current squad (a squad he’s spent years creating, nurturing, developing) before he can see them fulfill the promise he sees in them. Wenger has invested a lot of his personal and professional energy, skill and time into developing this squad. It would take a lot for him to just give it up. He’s not that kind of man. One of his great strengths is also one of his great weaknesses: his profound stubbornness and passionate commitment to an idea, a project.

Barca is indeed a superb squad but please look at the reality of that club v. Wenger’s position at Arsenal. Going to Barca means being in a very unstable position, having to deal with a whole slew of local club politics that he may not want to endure. Wenger has a lot of power at Arsenal, he’d lose that at Barca.

Becoming a manager at a club is more than just managing a squad of players, however great they are. It means having to deal with a whole set of complicated internal politics—and Wenger may just decide he doesn’t want to get into all that. Look at Rijkaard: in 3 years he’s led Barca to 2 league titles, a CL trophy and a 2nd place finish in the league (tied with the winners). Yet the club wants to get rid of him. And Rijkaard himself is tired of all the neurotic internal club and player politics.

Why should Wenger want to jump from one club that’s in turmoil (a turmoil that he at least has some ability to influence, in which he has some power) into another one in which he’s the new guy working at the whims of a capricious club president and a new set of players with massive egos who can’t get along?

also i dont bite anyone who doesnt come begging for it !
all in all your the most sencible person posting a comment to date however , you must be commended .

i do have some issues with what youve said however .

Becoming a manager at a club is more than just managing a squad of players, however great they are. It means having to deal with a whole set of complicated internal politics—and Wenger may just decide he doesn’t want to get into all that.

YOU DONT THINK THAT ARSENAL AT THE MOMENT ISNT A BEE HIVE OF INTERNAL POLITICS AFTER AMERICAN TAKE OVERS , BOARD MEMBERS SACKED ,TOP STARS FLIRTING WITH EUROPEAN CLUBS ,YOUNGSTERS HAVING TO COME OUT IN HIS DEFENCE, A MEDIA CIRCUS OF RUMOURS?

THE DIFFERENCE IS BARCA IS ALREADY A GREAT CLUB WITH GREAT STARS
,A MAN LIKE ARSENE WOULD THRIVE THERE , UNLIMITED BUDGET SPENDING
,GREAT STADIUM , GREAT CHANCE TO START ANOTHER YOUTH SQUAD,
BARCA HAS A HISTORY (AND PLEASE DONT SAY SO DOES ARSENAL WHY? BECAUSE CHEVS CAN SEEM TO SIGN GREAT STARS ON A FREE TRANSFERS , BUT OUR DAYS OF THAT (sol)ARE GONE ,THINK ABOUT IT ) HE WOULDNT HAVE TROUBLE GETTING PLAYERS TO BARCA ..

BUT HEY YOUR PROBLY RIGHT , HOPEFULLY HE DOESNT WANT HIS PROBABLE 7 LAST YEARS AS A MANAGER TO WIN ANYMORE TITLES .

ALSO ON THE TOPIC OF PLAYER EGO’S ,SO HAS FRANKIE, THATS WHY HE’S ON THE OUTTER , ARSENE IS A DILLIGENT AND WELL SPOKEN SENIOR MANAGER , HE WOULD ONLY COMMAND RESPECT AND HAS NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH OUR BIG NAMED PLAYERS IN THE PAST.. WELL MAYBE ANELKA 🙂 but he would bring barca up to another level .

also have a think about last year wenger came out and stated to henry to sign on the dotted line !!! to end speculation ..
now cant the same thing be said about arsene ?! why now ..
why not let arsene DO THIS THING ? THIS TIME ??

the answer is simple we DONT HAVE THE INVINCIBLES ANYMORE ,
in the last 2 or 3 years he has changed the squad look totally .
(it co-ensides with big spending on the stadium is that just co-incident) removing alot of senior players and debatably not replacing them ! he brings in the juniors (good juniors)but they are still YEARS OFF being world class , and then cannot instill
faith in those youngsters by giving his commitment , when he asked henry to do the same last year .

we all need to know that he is going to finish what he started
i think the board would like the same confirmation wouldnt you ?
like i will say again for the 40 billionth time . we havnt got a squad of seasoned invincibles anymore. they are scared little boys that will follow arsene outta here if he go’s . No wonder we cannot get any commitment from henry .. when the manager isnt leading from the front !!!!

i dont care what he’s done in the past i want to know that he is commited ! like he is asking his players to be !!!

“SO WHAT YOUR SAYING IS ARSENE IS A FREE AGENT WITH NO MORALS AND LIKES TO KEEP HIS OPTIONS OPEN ?? IS THAT BEFORE OR AFTER HE IS SUPPOSED TO ‘like to build and nuture squads?’”

I would say that not breaking contracts would suggest pretty good morals actually.

If you “never broke a contract” and always re-signed when you had a lot of time left to run on a contract then you’d still be working at the first place you took a job, if you think about it.

So if you consider contracts unbreakable (or to put it another way, you’re a man of your word) not wanting to commit too early to a contract is just good common sense.

I’m sorry you can’t see it that way, but it seems pretty obvious to me.

  34. steve_gooner said

I hear what your saying but the board has already asked arsene
to re-sign prior to the season ending this year! he said quote

“I’ve a contract for one more year here and I’ll complete that contract,” Wenger told the News of the World.

“I’ve never broken a contract in my entire career and next summer I will sit down with the board and see.”

SEE ? hope you are smart enough to SEE how CONFIDENT he sounds ..
as he is leaving his legacy to us in the form of YOUTH PLAYERS
LACKING EXPERIENCE AT THE TOP LEVEL, I WOULD HAVE HOPED FOR MORE
    COMMITMENT !

    another bbc headline reads
    ————————–
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he will be at the club next season but the Frenchman stopped short of committing his long-term future to the club.

Well the way I see it is the “down side” of someone who never would break a contract is that they are going to be very careful and take ages over committing themselves to something they consider unbreakable. Just good sense on his part.

And don’t forget, it isn’t like any football club would offer the same security in the other direction and never break a contract. We sacked our last 2 ‘proper’ managers prior to his arrival (Graham and Rioch), for example.

The way I see it is, he either signs or he doesn’t. I’d rather have someone who signs, or not, based on their absolute belief in what they are doing than have someone who signs extensions at the drop of a hat then leaves the moment another club hikes up their skirt and shows a bit of leg 6 months later.

ok king back on track .
as some slacker who runs this blog is doing a post EVERY 3 DAYS 🙂

Arsene is the subject of today’s rumours with The Sun sayin a “friend” of the arse is yanking on about how he’s unsettled with DD’s departure, how he’s worried about the squad being too young for a true title fight, also how he’s been told to sell players before he can buy.
it also speculates that he’s given the club til december to change
fortures or he’s off ,like optamistic to the annual gay al’s ball .

also in other more factual news gile grimandi the former arsenal french scout is now ( drum role ) the NEW DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

in other words it sorta shows you arsene dont really do as much talent scouting , as the world thinks ..

its more like what i thought .. hes a great trainer and tactician
but its the men behind the GREAT MAN who makes 1 great..
